The rumors have been confirmed – there’s a mini Super Nintendo!
Nintendo today revealed the mini SNES Classic is coming to stores this Fall. Like the NES Classic, the SNES Classic Edition is a standalone, miniature console. And it’ll feature 21 of some its best games—including Super Mario Kart, Super Mario World, F-Zero, The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past, Star Fox, and more. It’ll even include a never-before-released game—the sequel to the popular Star Fox game: Star Fox 2. But in order to play it, you’ll have to at least beat the first level of Star Fox (not too hard).

Similar to its predecessor, the SNES Classic Edition connects to modern TVs using HDMI. But unlike the NES Classic, the new console comes with two wired controllers, instead of one—so playing games like Super Mario Kart and F-Zero with friends should be much easier. And those controllers will have a 5ft. long cable, compared with the 3ft. cable of the NES Classic.
The SNES Classic Edition launches September 29 for $79.99. There’s no list of retailers yet, but Nintendo says it’s coming soon. Nintendo also isn’t saying how many units they’re making of the much-loved console. The NES Classic was extremely difficult to find—then discontinued it only a few months later (which didn’t sit well with fans). When asked by gaming site Kotaku about whether or not the SNES Classic will face the same supply constraints, Nintendo offered this statement:
We aren’t providing specific numbers, but we will produce significantly more units of Super NES Classic Edition than we did of NES Classic Edition.
Super Nintendo Entertainment System: Super NES Classic Edition is currently planned to ship from Sept. 29 until the end of calendar year 2017. At this time, we have nothing to announce regarding any possible shipments beyond this year.
