Today at their annual developer’s conference (WWDC), Apple announced some new additions to watchOS and Apple Watch—including new watch faces, an updated Activity app, new workout tracking for HIIT, and more. But the best feature could be that with watchOS 4, your Apple Watch can connect to gym equipment.
This new feature will have a “two-way data exchange” with things like treadmills and ellipticals. And it can track all relevant information from that machine—like your speed, incline, and more—and send it directly to your Activity app. So you get deeper information about your workout without having to try and input it in afterward. And best of all, Apple is working with the top gym equipment manufacturers like LifeFitness, Cybex, Star Trac, and more to bring this feature to their machines.
watchOS 4 is a free upgrade for Apple Watch users and is available in the fall.
