If you’re setting up a new iPhone, here’s how to easily move all the stuff from your old iPhone—like photos and videos, contacts, emails, apps, and more—onto your new iPhone using iTunes.
Before getting started, make sure you’re running the latest version of iTunes:
Mac
- Open iTunes
- From the menu bar at the top of your computer screen, choose iTunes > Check for Updates
- Follow the prompts to install the latest version
Windows
- Open iTunes
- From the menu bar at the top of the iTunes window, choose Help > Check for Updates
- Follow the prompts to install the latest version
1. Connect your iPhone to your computer using the included Lighting to USB Cable
2. Select your phone in iTunes
3. Choose the backup you’d like to use. Backups are in order by date. If prompted, you may need to update your new iPhone to latest version of iOS to match the previous backup
4. Click Restore Backup and wait for the restore to finish
Set Up as New iPhone
If your last iPhone had a lot of stuff on it you don’t want any more—like apps, texts, etc.— you can setup your iPhone as a new iPhone, without losing your contacts, mail, calendars and more using iCloud. To do this, choose “Set Up as New iPhone”, then sign in with your Apple ID. All the information you saved in iCloud on your previous iPhone will now appear on your new iPhone.
